Religion + College
Being from Missouri, I didn't have the opportunity to have religion involved in my education. I would have loved to have had seminary as a class, but
that wasn't the case. I had seminary every day before high school
beginning at 6:30, and I'm not exactly a morning person. I was one of a small group of LDS teens that attended my high school, so it was rare for me to ever have another Mormon in the same class. I would have loved to have a LDS guy my age growing up, but I didn't. That was one of the reasons I wanted to come attend college here at BYU. I didn't want to have to worry about my roommate being, well...not living righteously. I thought it would be awesome to go to a school with other people who have the same standards as me and who stand up for those standards. I wanted religion to be a part of my college experience. For those reasons, I have loved my experience here at BYU. I think it's awesome to begin class with a prayer and in some classes an opening song too. My favorite classes this year are my Book of Mormon class and my Mission Prep class. I never have trouble paying attention in those classes and it is during the day, so I don't have to fight falling asleep. Plus, the information is important for me to know since I will be serving a mission soon. I am grateful that I can attend this unique college where religion is tied in with the education.
